Innovation lies at the heart of our culture. It’s what keeps us at the top of our game, constantly finding new ways to create better experiences; more quickly, more efficiently and more cost-effectively. It’s also why we’re such huge supporters of the Open Source community. Sharing our own tools such as Knot.x, AET and Bobcat, and building on others through initiatives such as Shared Source Day.

Last night’s Architects of Innovation Gala in Warsaw paid tribute to this spirit of innovation within businesses all over Poland. It was the inaugural edition of this new awards initiative, recognising businesses that value innovation, those who are not afraid to be pioneers in their field and those that are setting the direction within their sector. The renowned daily newspaper, The Pulse of Business is behind the awards, which has drawn entries from businesses such as Skanska, SensDx Digital Diagnostics and PKO Polish Bank.

In such company, we were pretty thrilled to take the 1st prize in the category awarded for ‘building a culture of innovation’. The jury called out the R&D efforts of our Poznan Engineering Centre, to which 77 members of staff have contributed 22 projects in the last two years. In fact, our engineers have logged a massive 87,921 hours to R&D during that time. They also cited initiatives such as Shared Source Day and our Hackathons, which have so far given birth to 53 new ideas and contributed to 15 products.

This is a great achievement for a team that is so dedicated to knowledge sharing generally. Last year, for instance, we gave over 30 lectures at MeetUps and Conferences and hosted many local MeetUps at our own offices, including Frontownia, the Poznan Testing and Quality Group, the HashiCorp User Group and the Java User Group.

This award comes on the back of further recognition from the annual Sustainable Development Video Festival that we attended along with local companies such as Canon, Carrefour and Accor Hotels. The festival, which is aligned with the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations, invited us to talk about our fairly unique CSR framework and some of our most recent and significant initiatives, such as Project Shoebox

Various companies and NGO’s were the recipients of awards at the Festival - EcoVadis, Canon, Stena Recycling, CIWF Poland, the Mare Foundation - but we were picked out to receive the Festival’s first ever Special Award. The Jury focused on the integrity of our CSR initiatives, our commitment, the number of volunteers engaged across the company and our series of quirky Eco Warrior videos

It’s fantastic to be recognised in areas that we care so much about. And it’s great to be up against huge global corporations and fantastic NGO’s that do so much great work. A huge pat on the back goes to our employees for their passion and inspiration.
