If you’re a regular reader of the Cognifide Blog, you’ll know that we’re pretty passionate about technology. We’re also pretty obsessive about making sure that the best talent makes it into our exciting and fast-moving industry. So we make it our business to nurture and encourage young people who are considering a career in tech.
Our Centre of Engineering lies close to the stunning historical centre of Poznan in Poland, close to several universities that boast world class computer science faculties. In fact, nearly 1,000 new graduates emerge every year with a computer science qualification from Poznan University of Technology, the University of Economics or the Adam Mickiewicz University. These graduates have all been exposed to the highest level of education but need help and guidance as they start to navigate the world of business and technology. That’s where we step in. Volunteer developers from Cognifide have co-created a course that helps graduates to take their first steps in the business world and have been delivering lectures around new technologies for almost 3 years. We also support student and graduate events and job fairs in Poznan in our quest to make it easier for the best talent to make the transition into the world of technology.
Creating Communities for knowledge sharing
Preparing students to work in the IT sector is one thing, giving talented people a platform for discussion and sharing once they are there is also, we feel, vitally important. That’s why we are proud supporters of the Tech Society in Poznan. We regularly host meetings of the Java User Group and Poznan Testing & Quality Group. And we’re passionate supporters of Frontownia too. Frontownia is the first community in Poznan for designers, engineers and anyone else interested in front-end technologies. In fact, Frontownia was created by a team of Cognifide UI developers. The community meets at Cognifide several times a year to talk about trends and innovation - many of the lecturers are our own engineers and developers.
Promoting Diversity in Tech
We also want to encourage diverse groups to consider a future in computer science. That’s why we support Rails Girls Poznan which is a women-only programming workshop and Devoxx4Kids, a world-wide initiative that aims to introduce the idea of programming to children. Inspired by Devoxx4Kids, we created our own workshops offering basic programming to local children and we plan to continue this popular initiative in 2016.
Knowledge Management Ambassadors
Last year we were delighted to earn the title of Knowledge Management Ambassador for the best knowledge sharing program in Poland. This has made us even more determined to develop our efforts and strengthen our collaboration with universities, share our passion for technology and make it easier for young people to move through education and into the global technology industry.
